I know..more texture stuff.

This week I lost my grandfather the next day received news of another close friend in serious condition. It's been a hard week. This has to be the first photo that has emotion behind it.

The question is..did it work? Or does it look like me in mud..lol And be truthful people! LOL..I can handle it! :)

Sorry to hear you are having a tough week. After reading that, your hurt appears evident in your eyes.

The texture looks more like peeling than broken to me ... which is probably still approprate anyhow huh?

:sorry: as well Kat. Life is so hard sometimes. Being aware of it all is one of the curses of being human.

In terms of this image, first off i like it; it's strong for sure and I like the B/W.

I can see the emotion behind the paint. (I agree with MA - it looks like paint). That still works for me though. To improve the shot, I might have suggested a bit more expression/sadness from your face. I can feel the sadness from the words you've written, but I'm not seeing that same level of sadness from your face. If your face 'looked' sadder or more emotive the image would be considerably stronger imo. Trust me though, I know you 'are' very sad.

Hope that helps - and again I'm sorry for your loss and offer you my condolences.

Sincerely,

Marko

Thank you. I don't find the death the hard part but the fact of finality and that it can come at any time to anyone..myself included.

I have to agree with the sadness. Hence why I asked. I don't think I'll be able to get that photo of myself. I find it to hard to get a good emotional shot when I have to shoot myself.

I would love to get more emotional shots, I find it hard to find someone who can model that way. Hoping that if we move to Vancouver..that I will find.

:sorry: to hear about your woes. I hope things get better for you soon!

With respect to the photo, I am missing some shadows around your nose in this image as I find your nose has "disappeared" on your face ;) Otherwise, I think the result works.

Good call! I'll have to burn I guess..or hmm..I don't know. Figure it out..

Hi Kat, so sorry to hear of your loss. I looked at this earlier on my Blackberry but I got busy mid reply and was logged off. This is a rather cool, if unpleasant piece. To me the outer covering is a shell or mask that represents the face we show to the world. Sometimes we have to be strong for friends or family or something is too unpleasant or painful to express so we cover it up. The broken mask shows our inner self. It is peeling away bit by bit revealing the inner layers of our true emotions. The face underneath is wrought with pain, agony, defeat all unpleasant in our world and are the 'ugly' side of human emotion.

You, yourself are very pretty and to you let yourself be seen in this way is a brave act in itself.

The fact that there may be parts missing to the face or the face itself is marred and broken by the processing, textures etc. just add to the overall meaning of the photo. The eyes are clear and crisp and the eyes are the soul. To me the blandness of the expression may just work on the side of 'hidden' emotions more than an overly expressive one.

Good work.

Thank you Raiven.

That is EXACTLY my thought process as I was doing this. Exactly to a tee! Everything you said..it is almost scary.

BUT...

It makes me happy I'm not crazy for thinking it! Or maybe we are... :)

I think Raiven said it all for me too...I can only add that it's very powerful image and I am sorry for both your loss and the fact that you are having a rough time right now. :o

good job. I like the idea and I think it works well. I believe there are many other ways the message could be told, but this clearly works.

There's so much sorrow in this world and your image depicts it in a masterful way. I wouldn't worry about the title as it really doesn't need one. It's meaning is clear to me.

Thank you all for your kind words. :)

I really want to bring my photography to another level and be an inspiration..but that is sure a hard thing to do.

Maybe that can be a theme some time..strong emotional photos

I would be up for the challenge

Kat, this is an incredible photo. Raiven described it the best for me so 'ditto'.

I am sorry to hear that you are having such an awful time of it.
