Ok, people. I've decide to do a Photography.ca Olympic Torch Relay. I've taken a couple of photos of the torch bearer here in Halifax and expect all the other Canadian thugs on this forum to get out there and add to the thread with photos of torch bearers in their city. It was certainly a challenge - a moving target at night. I ended up with two that, while not great photos, at least are recognizable for what they are.

good work Iggy. I headed out of the city so I wouldn't get stuck in the traffic. My daughter sent me a text that she had seen the lighting of the torch.

I think it's a great idea to get pictures of it. I know they are coming to Lunenburg on friday. i will see what I can do :). hopefully it won't conflict with my curling game. :fingerscr

Find the day it's going to be in your neighbourhood and plan accordingly ;)

Very cool! It must be quite a feeling to be able to run with the torch!

I might have been more impressed if I hadn't found out there were many, many torches. They're selling the things off apparently. Plus the torch gets driven around and such. Not like a straight trek across country. It was the biggest joint I have ever seen though. Not surprising since the Olympics are in BC. ;)

Get your photos, Bambi?

I have no interest in getting a torch. My husband said that he had heard that the Coke people who carried the torch were given theirs, but the CIBC ones had to buy them.

Yes I got some pictures. this is the only part way decent shot :wall-an:

My camera does not do well in these lighting conditions. Plus I had so much fun at the beach that my battery was almost dead-oops :yell:
but it was cool to see it. My daughter came with me. when I saw it coming over the bridge I was bouncing on my toes saying 'I see it, I see it' . My poor child was 'mom!' :headslap:

Great capture! Don't blame yourself, it's the lighting conditions. I really had a challenge myself. Maybe better gear would help but I think more experience might help too. I rarely take a shot at night.

I took half a dozen shots on one corner then took a shortcut to another vantage point before I got the two I posted. It's really fricken' tricky to shoot photos at night of moving subjects.

Who's next? Montreal? Do we have anyone in New Brunswick?

Cool! What is the torch supposed to represent? It looks like a fish from Haida art?

Excellent. I hope that means you'll catch a few shots.

I missed your earlier questions (previous post). Most people I've talked to has said that it represents a very important ingredient in snowboarding. ;)

here's what I found out:

The 2010 Olympic Torch, designed and manufactured by Bombardier in collaboration with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), is a symbol of the 2010 Winter Games, and will carry the Olympic Flame across Canada on its 45,000-kilometre journey. Twelve-thousand torchbearers will hold an Olympic Torch as they move through 1,037 communities across Canada. Over 90 per cent of the Canadian population will have an opportunity to see the beauty of the Olympic Torch and experience the warmth of the Olympic Flame.

Designer/Manufacturer: Bombardier/VANOC

Inspiration: Canada’s open land, vast potential and smooth, fluid lines left in the snow and ice from winter sports

A bit off topic, but an example of a Haida transformation mask. Click on the photo for the transformation. Pretty impressive stuff.
