hello again!
im wondering why i seem to have such a hard time resizing photographs to post? it is certainly sensible and reasonable to have limits, but my pics always seem to be too large, even after i change them (using irfanview) to be max 600 pixels. it seems as though any edits that i make to the photos make it too large, as the same photo unedited and resized will be ok. i have also tried resizing in a different program (corel paint shop pro) but still have no luck. the only way i get them to be the right amount of KBs is to make them too tiny to really see and this results in distortion of the picture. is there another way to do this that is easier?
thanks!

Hi Kiley9806 and future visitors,

Irfarview is a great simple and free program that does all kind of photo editing including RESIZING IMAGES. You can get it free at Irfanview.com

Just installed it and here`s instructions from my Vista OS computer - should be the same in XP and Mac as well.

Open image in irfanview

Next go to Image - Resize/Resample...

Where it ways Width (under Set new size) if your image is GREATER than 600 pixels then enter 500 or 600 pixels in that box then click OK. If your image is smaller than 600 pixels, just click OK.

Make SURE that the Preserve aspect ratio box is checked off. Make SURE the Size method: is set to Resample (better quality)

I`m attaching a screenshot below. I used it to resize a photo that was 800x1200 pixels and was 281 KB

Next go to File - Save as... choose JPG-JPG/JPEG Format where it says Save as type from the dropdown menu. The default setting there should be fine. Just make sure the slider is set at about 50.

Doing this should get you a file that is less than 100K
If by chance it isn't, then just go back and move the slider to 40 when you are saving.

That should work and give you a photo that is the right size and NOT fuzzy. Please do a test and let me know if this works for you. If it doesn't, it's my pleasure to troubleshoot this with you by phone.

Best! Marko

Is there a 600 px Resolution limit on posting photos? Hmmmm, well I do a lot of industrial and other very detailed photos and find they lose so much when I resize my photos under 1024 and I prefer higher but can live with 1024. My minimum resolution on any of my monitors is 1680x1050 and find any photo with lots of detail very hard to see at a 600 px size and affects how my work it displayed (My work, that is almost funny lol, but what photos I do take, I should say). Those are native resolution for my Macs, and I have one that uses even higher resolution. Why is the the size so small? I am new here and not looking to be difficult, just find that px. to be very small.

Actually I think the limit is 750 pixels...which for me is large. I find that 600 tends to look about right for most monitors without scrolling.

That said, if it ever becomes too restrictive - I'm prepared to up the limits.
Just let me know.

Thanks!
