This is for those who are in Toronto (GTA) or others who want to see about getting in the 2010 Contact Photography Festival which gets over 2 million visitors just for this and no matter where you are in Canada if you can afford the shipping costs of your framed work it may be worth exploring for those looking to get exposure. Most galleries are getting their artists lined up now and most of them are juried exhibitions to determine if your in or not which is good for those without gallery ties as of yet it may open some doors for you.

I will be at least at one gallery for the 2010 show and more than likely at least one other, I am in discussions with a second and third gallery that are interested in showing my work. The deadline for registration is December 16th 2009. If you plan to try and get in now would be a decent time to start looking for a gallery that will show your work. If I am feeling up to it I may see about renting a space and seeing about getting a few photographers together to put on our own display for 2010. Just not sure I am going to be able to get it done in time, but I am participating for certain in the 2010 show.

Anyway here is the link with the info about the 2010 Contact Show. Last year I only found out a month before hand that I was in the show but now is a good time to keep your eye open for galleries and/or other venues getting involved if you leave it to late you may miss out. I sold some photos last year so it is worthwhile to try and get involved if you can and why I would like to be in more than one gallery.

Those whom are not in the area if you need any info on a gallery or any other help you think I may be able to help you with let me know. I am up and about a few days a week now so if I can do anything just ask. Not sure what that would be but if I can be of assistance let me know.

I may be broken but not an invalid fortunately, and I was told to start moving around as long I am comfortable so I won't be doing anything that strains me which walking is the worse so I try and not stand or walk more than I have too and I have fancy new cane, I need to go show just how cool us Geriatrics can be lol. It is why although I want to rent the space I really not sure I am going have the energy just wish the deadline was in the middle of January but it is not so unless there is a miracle after today I doubt I have the stamina to pull it off by December 16th. I went out and bought a new toy today and now I am done for the day but I want to get back taking photos and it won't happen as long as I am in this condition, just need to ease back into things, I have had a few setbacks but it just gonna take time and I found a way to start doing my photo shoot for the book at my house, even that is a few weeks away but I will have my wife and son around to help with me with the shoots.

I know how hard it is not to do/not to be able to do too much when you want to so badly...especially when you have goals and timelines. Is there anybody you know other than family that might be willing to help? I know that when things happen people usually come out of the woodwork to offer assistance so maybe you could take someone up on their offer if they did? I don't know what that might be but if it's a way to help you get things done in the timelines it might be an idea....just a thought.

If I were in TO I would definitely help out but being in Calgary it's kinda hard...lol.

Thanks for posting this A.L.
Just looked through the site fast and didn't see the dates...WHEN in 2010 will the month long exhibition be?

I will almost certainly come to Toronto specifically to cover some of this event though I doubt I'll participate this year.

Very cool! Best of luck! Would love to do something like this but I'm far from ready!

On a side note, glad to hear that your recovery has started to come. My father, after many years of too much work on his back, can no longer walk without a walker. But he does find the pool a better option for that. It's ironic to think that exercise is the only thing that will help reduce his pain but it hurts so much to do it.

Take it slowly! Wish I could see your gallery!

HI

I am looking for galleries for the Contact festival - newly returning to TO after 15 years so a little out of the gallery loop- are there any choice galleries still looking for photography that you are aware of?

Here is my website - KellyMason.com (http://www.kellymason.com)

Thanks for your help on this.

Hi Marko I found this:

CONTACT is an annual month long festival of photography with over 1000 local, national and international artists at more than 220 venues across the Greater Toronto Area in May.

which is awful, because I'm going to Toronto in June!! :wall-an:

The best I can do on that end is send them to your website and if they are interested they will contact you. For those who are not in Toronto and plan on hanging work at a show I can verify the gallery is what is says it is, make sure your work is hung for you and those sorts of things, but finding a gallery even for Contact is a full time job.

Marko, it runs the month of May but different venues have different dates for events during the month but most do run the entire month. This is the calendar of events but I think this is last years and once they confirm this years lineup the info should be found here, CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival (http://www.contactphoto.com/calendar.php)
