I spent today in Halifax at meetings. I left at 4 to head home (normally takes about 1 hour 15 minutes). As I'm heading home husband calls to say it's started to snow. no worries I'm on my way. I drop my friend off at the car pool lot part way home. 3 minutes later I hit a wall of white! visibility was about 15 feet.

The rest of the drive was spent crawling home with a bunch of other vehicles. cursing that I didn't think to take the SUV with 4wd and studded tires. No, I'm in the focus wagon. :yell:
couldn't see the edge of the road or where the line was dividing the direction of traffic. A big truck in front that I'm trying to NOT tailgate except that the speed kept changing requiring me to brake (which is not good on icy roads). Part of the way had some moron on my a$$ because he wanted to pass and I wouldn't get out of the way. Finally came to my exit except that I can't actually see the off-ramp.

let me tell you driving by feel is NOT fun.

final drive took 2 hours. felt like 10.

So to console myself I had a drink (going to have another one soon) and did this:

This is an artificial tree (real one will be bought when daughter comes home from university). I use it for my old hand painted glass ornaments that I've collected over the years. I also add to it with treasures I find here and there.
here's a close up of the tree skirt I made:

Come and live over here. All we got here is rain. Lots and lots of rain. I wish we had snow for chrismas. But it's not going to happen I'm afraid... ;)

But driving must really suck I can imagine. Glad you made it home safely. And the tree is lovely! :)

I'm just sitting here peaceably waiting for "Global Warming" But somehow it's evading my corner. Over the last few years I've seen more minus blah temps, more snow and the forecast says we're in for it soon. I drive a Focus sedan which fills me with the fear in a good snow dump....I remember in 75 we were all told about the coming mini ice age, well IMHO...It's here :D Always good to arrive alive and the tree looks like it's in a warm place:)

I'm sorry you had a crappy commute Bambi....butI'm glad you got home okay.
Try being in Calgary this week....the wind created HUGE drifts in the north...the crazy thing is the city doesn't plow neighbourhood streets...only main roads and apparently it's against city bylaws to hire some private company to plow your streets also... you could be fined if they catch you! After much bitching I guess the city finally is getting up there (a week later) and cleaning up.
These are some shots I got off the Calgary herald online:

We missed snow. Went from sweaters to -30 in a day. Don't think we'll have much snow now as the cold comes..it doesn't go.

Lovely tree..have a drink on me!

thanks Kat! I think I will.

Casil that is one huge amount of snow!

what I find so awful about here is that we get so much freezing rain that the roads are treacherous.
