We had or first measurable amount of snowfall down here in Ohio. Figured it would be a good idea to head out and get a few shots of it. This is forest area is a part of the Oak Openings region in Ohio. Known by the Nature Conservancy as one of the "Last 200 Greatest Regions on Earth" and is considered to be one of the largest intact areas of Savannah in the Western hemisphere.

Yes. I thought I had just caught you in the middle of uploading or something and was going to try back later.

I like this one. It has a very dreamy feel. Orton?

Iggy, unfortunately, yeah, its orton. Im am beginning to get tired of orton. I think its time we find an alternative to this. It seems to be a favorite for many so I still use the action on some of the landscapes.

I think that's why it worked for you JJ ... it's not something you use much. I still don't know how to do Orton :)

Yeah, don't knock it. Used appropriately it makes for some phenomenal images like this one! :D Like everything else, though, it can be overdone.

Im not knocking it. I would compare it to Led Zeppelins "Stairway to Heaven."

It is arguably one of the greatest songs ever composed and written, but due to that fact, it has been played out on the radio. Im not knocking the orton effect, I just think for myself its time to move on.

I understand what you are saying JJ ... and to some extent I agree. I think though it's more about it getting used in images that truly justify it's use.

However, this is a learning website so many people are going to use trechniques like this a lot to learn and gain feedback. Other websites I've been to rarely have orton used at all. Look at Flickr ... if you do a general search for something you don't get many orton images at all. HDR Merge though ... very common. People (including myself) seem to learning to use HDR Merge for more subtle effect unless the image really calls for strong efffect.
