Antelope Canyon in northwestern Arizona is a truly magical place. i went there as part of a 10-day whirlwind tour of the Arizona/Utah border area in 2008, and would love to have had more time... this was shot with a 40D and Tamron 17-35 lens at 17mm, .8 seconds at f/13...

Very neat, lovely shot. Great lines, textures, colors and the light shining in tops it. I can see why you had to do the longer exposure, did you happen to get the exact photo with just a bit quicker shutter?

I would love to go there..just to get my own shots!!!

OMG this is my favourite of yours so far (and I've loved them all). If I saw this in a gallery I would be plotting out how to afford it!! it's amazing!!!

The reason I mentioned it, I know not critique but personally I'd think this would be an absolute killer if the white on the ground could have a little bit of it's detail back. But that in my preference :)

And this is where you are allowed to tell me to shut up! :)

no worries, Kat... C&C is always welcome no matter where i post... :D
i'd love to have gotten some detail into that bright spot, but given the lighting in that canyon, it's well nigh impossible... the canyon is about 120 feet deep, and only about 6 feet wide at the top, so it's pretty shady down there. the sunbeams only penetrate all the way to the bottom for about half an hour a day, right at noon, so it's pretty bright light. in order to get any detail in that sunspot, you'd wind up with rest of the image completely black - the contrast between that bright spot and everything else is just too much. even at 1/8 second, when the rest of the image is almost totally dark, there's still no detail in the bright spot, so i made the choice to let the sunspot burn out, and preserve the rest of the amazing colors and shapes in the canyon walls... besides, it's the reflected light from that bright spot that brings out the colors in the canyon walls... ;)

That is why I asked if you had another one with the slower shutter speed. If you have that spot with detail on another photo, same photo (tripod wasn't moved) you can photoshop that spot to get the those details back. I've had to do that with tricky shots..sometimes it works out for me..sometimes it doesn't but that is an option for shots like these.

Either way, it got my attention and everyone elses! I would love to get one like this!

I've seen this image somewhere before...can't quite place where but it made an impact enough in its beauty that I remember it. :)
