Ruby evening

Ruby Beach, on the Washington coast, is one of my favorite spots for photos... or at least it was, until a storm last winter completely rearranged the beach! the rocks are still there, of course, but now much harder to get to, so i'm glad i got this while the gettin' was good! ;) taken about half an hour after sunset, 5D, 24-135 @ 31mm, 2 sec @ f/13...

thanks, Kat... actually, Washington is a bit schizophrenic in that regard. the southern half of the coast is almost all flat sand beaches, nice for strolling with a friend, or flying kites, but deadly boring for photos. the northern half is as scenic as can be, but most of it's inaccessible except by hiking along the beach; there's no road access, because the Indians own all the land, and won't allow roads to be put in. Ruby Beach is about the southern-most beach on the coast that has any real photogenic qualities, and it's quite popular for that. farther north, near the Indian fishing village of La Push, there are some other great beaches... if you recall the sunset shot in my first post, that was taken at Second Beach, about a mile south of La Push. it's another favorite with photographers, for obvious reasons, but even there, it's a hike to reach the beach from the nearest road...

stunning location!!! I think that you would enjoy our Bay of Fundy for photos. I plan to get over there and spend a few days taking pictures in the late spring.

beyond the fact that this is a killer image :highfive::highfive:, the information that you gave is just as awesome!!! it makes me think that what we need is a guide book with these kind of descriptions - for photographers or whomever would enjoy getting off of the beaten path for some of natures glories!

I've seen so many photos of this area (went searching for the La Push area in the Twilight books on Flickr) and saw so many beautiful shots ... like this one. It's a much see region if ever one gets the chance I think.
