Hi everyone,

For the longest time i have been using the Unsharp mask filter in PS for sharpening. I find it to be an excellent tool.

Although I have used the smart sharpen filter in the past, old habits die hard and i just recently started using it again and find it to be a bit better (more versatile) than the unsharp mask tool.

What do other people use to sharpen their photos?

I use high pass sharpen and occasionally the unsharp mask but I most often paint in sharpness using a brush.

I have been using Unsharp Mask for years, and now there are a LOT more options so I purchased a a whole DVD specifically on Photoshop sharpening... and after sitting through something like six hours of instruction I can tell you that 99.9% of the time Unsharp Mask is the right tool for the job!

Like the posters above me, I create a copy of the image, Unsharp it, then paint in the detail I want onto the original.
