I must have taken 30 pictures of rocks last weekend. I think I might be getting a wee bit obsessed:

If you start naming them all, you are obsessed and will need meds quickly:D

I'm quite liking some of you rocks.

Diggin' shot one in a major way! As long as you don't start feeding them you should be alright...take it from the chickadee chick. :evil2:

it's amazing that all of these were taken on the same beach! I haven't started feeding them but I do talk to them. is that bad?

But they are good for posing models, eh Chantelle? ;)

All very nice compositions and shots!

The ones in the first post have too much blue cast in them though. (I'm allowed to critique Bambi anytime ...she said I can :p )

the first one in your second batch is really arresting. Great shapes and colors.

of course you can! If I just want 'oh that's wonderful!' I'll show them to my mother! :D

Thanks everyone for your comments.

MA re: the blue cast-can you show me how to get rid of it? I thought I did from the first one (the sand is brown) and thought that it's just that rocks, sky and water were blue.

warming up the white balance often does the trick. What editing ap do you use?

It kind of depends on the editing software you are using.
Although ... if there's enough blue i nthe sky you may simply be able to use Saturation and slect the blues and back them off.

Also you could use the marque tool to select around the lower part of the photo and then use saturation (blue only) and back it off a bit more selectively that way.

To be even more selective (and what I usually do) is to duplicate the layer, turn off the top layer, select the bottom layer and desaturate that layer as required, then select the top layer again and use a layer mask to blend through the bits you want ... in this case it would be the parts that were too blue.
For a better idea of what I'm talking about go see my blog under resources and use the same technique I describe in my Sharpening tutorial there.

okay I gave this a shot. I used the colour adjust tool in Paint Shop pro and fooled with the blue level until it looked better (on my monitor anyway). Is this better? too much? too little?:confused:

I think the stones look better but the water and sky have lost their impact.

Can I have a go?

sure! I have no understanding of masking so avoided it :)

and sorry, MAW I don't get the reference

Ok here's a couple of quickies ...

I wanted to retain that beautiful blue in the sky but didn't like the unnatural looking blue to the water and the blue shadows on the rocks
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u104/Mad-Aussie/10%20photographyca/Jan-Jun/bambi-rocks1.jpg

This one I again loved the sky but backed the water off somewhat.

I enhanced other colours just a frag also in both.

But how they will look to you on your monitor I don't know ... just know they look way better on mine.
A calibrating tool like a Spider3 is a good idea to put on the wish list.

There's a scene in the The Birdcage" where Nathan Lane is trying to be a straight man so the reference is to him practicing his Straight-ness...he was asking Robin William's if he was doing "straight" correctly! lol! It was pretty funny!!!
