According to some, the world will come to an end in 2012, most citing the Mayan calender which ends on dec 21, 2012 or some such thing. As it closes in the buzz gets louder. Other signs are now popping up beside the Mayan connection but if you Google it, you'll get the drift

There's a good chance with all the global warming that many low lying parts of the planet will be underwater in the not too distant future but I think it's still more than 2 years out.

Don't even get me started on Global Warming! Under my name It really shouldn't say senior member, more like "King of the Fruit bats"

Hehehehehe. You're always ranting about something but I haven't seen you rant on that topic yet... it's only a matter of time I guess... :D:D

Believe it or not I was fine up until I stopped watching Television eight, nine years ago...I saw nothing wrong with the world...I was enjoying the nipple:D
Still not sure about the global warming deal, taxes are up but temps are down. I should really have been some kind of Terrier I guess

Edit to add...My opinion so far from the studies I've done...Global warming is the result of a long game called sun cycles. Much as the tide comes in and goes out based on a daily rhythm, the sun goes through the same thing though the time scale is vastly different. I think we're having some effect and not positive for us in the long run ( as with 90% of the other griefs we will encounter down the pike until we get the idea of harmony and balance down) but the idea of us being responsible for our present condition, I'm getting conflicting input! Long and short...Great way to bring in much needed revenue but lacking any hard core evidence! We can't even predict the weather 14 days out with total accuracy! Climate modeling upon which the whole global warming fear draws its strength, depends on correct understanding of input variables, ( which are incredibly vast) info we're not even close to having a handle on.

 Never thought I'd attempt a hijacking of my own thread:clown:

I just saw the movie 2012 starring John Cusack and although I am not a fan of these total destruction of the world horror flicks I believe I can offer a few points/truisms that may help one to survive.

1. Don't be the quirky but likable conspiracy theorist. You will be the key to the protagonist's survival but you won't survive. Good news is you get to go out on your own terms in a blaze of glory.

2. Don't be the compassionate, sincere scientist that has the breakthrough. Yours will be the sympathetic and tragic death most likely along with your cute children and lovely wife.

3. Don't be the woman of questionable morals. If you have an affair on your older, wealthy but despicable husband, you will die. Good news is his death will be even more horrific.

4. Don't be an ***hole for you will die just because it makes us feel good to get revenge, vicarious as that may be.

5. If you are the hapless boyfriend of the protagonists ex-wife, and even though you are a good guy, and even though you treat her kids well and are a good provider and even though you flew a succession of airplanes to save the life of your girlfriend, her kids and her ex-husband despite having had only two lessons, you will die. Sorry bud, but you are kind of in the way of the rekindling romance and we do not need any messy or morally questionable strings left attached.

6. If you are John Cusack, you will survive.

7. We will only pause for a second to think about how morally reprehensible it is that some will be saved and only a few survive. I mean are you more worthy because you are king or queen of a now nonexistent country? The U.S. citizens who survive do not have to think about that since their president chose to stay and die with the people.

8. If you are a cute, entertainly perky but yappy little dog, you in explicably will be saved.

9. If your father is a real obnoxious, rude, greedy pig of a man, you will definitely be saved.

10. Live everyday as if it were your last. You just never know. I vote with the Mayans. :)

So your sitting down at work, boss comes in and announces due to funding cuts your department is being shut down. When you arrive home you have to tell the wife the leaders feel a calender 2000 years into the future is good enough for now. They did say they will revisit the situation but it could be a 1000 years before that happens. Life is tough when you're a Mayan public servant at least you weren't picked for a sacrifice.

As for global warming, who gives a damn. I don't think we need a reason to stop pumping crap into our environment when there are ways not to. Biggest problem is it hits the big boys in their wallet so there is no way they'll do it unless forced to.

Well said on all counts Greg!

Funny on the first part I picture a Dilbert cartoon where he's dressed as a Mayan Cilvil servant...lol...thanks for that!!!!

really?

At least 3 times in my life, I've heard and did NOT prepare for IDENTICAL tales of this apocalypse...the dates have passed and I'm still typing. I remember the Mayan calendar being the definitive source for this destruction as well....

For me, these types of things are just like bad farts.... after the initial "Hey do you smell something?"......they go away pretty fast and leave no destruction in their paths. Course this could be a diarrhea fart.

Okay I think we should start a new poll:
"Should Marko change Michalaw's label to read "King of the Fruit Bats"?"

I vote 'yes!'.

It reminds of various BTVS seasons where the apocolypse was always averted. So perhaps others, of which we are unaware, are saving us from destruction!!!

JAS: I would love to be the yappy dog but I suspect I am the scientist. :yell:

oh well.

Perhaps Marko will give us the ability to change our own title? Say after 100 posts, or something along that line?

You guys are interesting characters, posting a poll like this and responding to a poll like this in a photography forum. Is there something about photography that makes us philosophical? I thought about the question and how to reply all day today. The real question for me is: why aren't we living our lives as if the world will end tomorrow? We should be, in my opinion. And so if the world ends in 2012, who cares. Nothing will change.
My $.02 worth.

One good thing about the world ending is you don't have to go to work the next day, so see there is a silver lining
