stood on the stub of a dock and took this 8 shot panorama (stitched in Microsoft Ice)

Nice! I like panos. Did on myself the other day and used a tip that made a large difference. Next time you are taking a pano turn your camera 90 degrees and take all the shots in portrait mode. You'll get a taller pano out of it.

Lovely and clear shot. You didn't quite crop it properly though, left some black edging.

I've used the Portrait pano idea also ... I found it worked sometimes, other times I just cropped down to what a landscape pano would have produced anyhow. Maybe with a proper pano tripod it would have worked better.
