I ordered something online, paid by Visa but it went through Paypal. Next thing I know I get a tracking cookie installed on my system built into my Paypal receipt? Is this normal behavior? I find it deceptive and quite unacceptable!

I do not use paypal. I have heard enough problems from people who deal with them that I am not willing to give them my business. If I can only order it and pay through paypal just is not going to happen.

This is just one of many sites where the problems with paypal seem never ending.

PayPal - Horror Stories, Lawsuits, PayPal Problems & Information - PayPal Account (http://www.aboutpaypal.org/)

PS: Many people seem to like it, it is a personal choice not to use them. All companies you can find pages of complaints but seems PayPal is amongst the leaders in that area.

I use Paypal but it is for all of one company and we are close friends with the owner.

I'm not to sure what happened..if it's right. I'd definitely find out though!!!!

I've used paypal for at least 7 years now...never ever had an issue..lucky i guess. i think paypal is a jillion times safer than shopping by phone or shopping in a real store using a credit card. THERE, low paid employees have direct access to your credit card number and can and do sell it.

Not sure if a traffic cookie is different than a regular cookie...but either way..
and you're not going to like this.....But...most sites on the net...including this bulletin board use cookies. It helps with the surfing experience...so you don't have to loggin each time etc. I think the real issue is sites like amazon that tailor their advertising based on your surfing/buying habits...I think that's what you're likely referring to...and we do NONE of that on this board.

Either way, in general, privacy is 100% dead. The Internet has killed Privacy.

you can fight it if you want... but the stress it will cause you will take many days off your life....and it's only going to get worse. Sorry.
Is it deceptive what paypal did...yes...BUT - no more deceptive than the 7 lines of fine print that is too small to read in a TV commercial....or the asterisk on a brochure that tells you to read the 50 page document for ALL the facts. Dollars to doughnuts they HAVE told you what they are doing...it's just embedded in legal text that no one reads.

Buy everything in cash if you want to leave no trail.....

This was a tracking cookie which I googled and discovered is used to target me with advertising I want to see. Normal site cookies I understand, it's the tracking kind I dislike. On the site where I ordered the product there was a visa symbol which I clicked on for payment, I was then whisked off to Paypal for the info. This was the first time I've ordered anything online other than web hosting service.
