I knew the US had one but was unaware of ours. It blocks telemarketers from calling your number, they have 31 days to comply. These people drive me nuts :wall-an:...Antway, thought I'd share

Will they make Sears stop calling me? Only people who do and for insurance on products I've never purchased...:headslap:

If you just have one then you should just be able to tell them when they call to take your number of their list. They still have 31 days to comply however. We get a ton of calls mostly because my roommate signs up for everything. I Sign up for club cards and stuff too but always give a false phone number and email:D

Haha..believe it or not..I told them three nights in a row. Needless to say..the third call went to the call center floor manager where a few words were said and then a call to Sears Costumer Service where more words were said. Haven't had anything since..but I haven't used them either..nor will I once I'm out of this forsaken no stores place.

I used to get called by credit card companies all the time, so once I went through the whole procedure until I was asked what my income was. I told her I wasn't going to tell her that, she claimed that I needed to in order to get the card. My reply was that I didn't want the card, so she enquired why I wasted her time, I told her it was my turn. I have not received a single call from a credit card company since.

The Aussie version of this has worked well for us for the past few years. Unfortunately now though we only have one line into the house which is the business line. You can't stop them on that. We gave up the private line because we rarely used it and only got a couple of incoming calls on it. Better to just stick with the mobiles ... cell phones to you lot I think?

I signed up for this the day it came out. It doesn't seem to be working very well for me. One of the caveats is that they are allowed to call if you are a customer so if you bank with the Bank of Montreal then they can call you regarding any of their products, etc. Maybe it's reduced but it doesn't seem to eliminate it as far as I can tell.

I signed up for it and almost never have anybody call me since I did...takes about 3 months for the calls to stop. If they do call, I tell them I am on the do not call list and I can have them charged and fined for calling me...so it would be in their best interest to not call me again. :)
That seems to work. :)
Worst one I ever had was the Calgary Herald. They consistently called me every day trying to get me to subscribe (I told them to stop calling me but at the time that only worked for 3 months and then rinse - repeat) until I sent them an email telling them to cease and desist or I would seek a harassment claim. Haven't called me since.

Charities, politicians and newspapers are all exempt from the DNC list as well as any company, bank, insurance or what have you that you presently deal with, they're still allowed to telemarket you....So let's see...Who's left then?

We've got one here, and it works like a charm. :) Haven't had any calls since.

UK also has one but it is hard to police when so many call come from India. There are also rules on dropped calls. It seems you can have an auto reject on calls with no caller ID although the telephone companies do not like doing it. I know my wife and son both look at phone and if no caller ID will not answer it. They feel if they can't ID them selves they are not worth talking to.

The other day I had to laugh my 17 year old son answers the phone, I hear:
"Hi how's it going"
"wanna hang out"
"lets do something"
Next thing he hangs up and I enquire who was that, response "A telemarketer"

I had a good laugh guess he saw comic who claimed he did this so my son tried it. The telemarketer didn't seem to like it, I guess once my son just kept asking what the person was wearing until they hung up.
