The story behind this one is a bit funny. Between the general spring thaw and all the rain we had, this section of the stream was pretty high and like many other wetlands there are little 'islands' made up of tree roots, debris and soil. They're mushy, unstable and tippy. But it was the only place to take a decent shot from, so I hopped out to one. Tripod legs at different lengths and plunged into different wet recesses of my island I got down to it.

The first few shots I took were spoiled by the fact that I had to stand on the same little tuffet as the tripod. Try as I might, I couldn't stand statue-still for 10 or 15 seconds. So I left the camera set up and went to get my shutter release cable. With that stretched across the water to my own little tuffet I was able to get a still shot. I must have looked a lunatic, but the low perspective with that sweeping arc of bubbles was the only way to get this right. Oh and I also had to hold a small tree out of the way at the same time - just sort of bent it toward me and out of the shot.

Ah what lengths we will go to. If you look closely at the first one, you can see a red trail marker in the middle distance.

Thanks guys...this conservation area was pretty fabulous overall. I have some shots of a defunct mill that stood there a couple hundred years ago...basically all that's left are walls and falls. I'll post them later. : )
