That 2nd shot is a beaut. The flower colour and the bokeh just compliment each other perfectly.

I don't understand this? How does a photo stack work? what is it's purpose?

Sometimes people will use a stack of shots to create a huge depth of field. By adjusting the focus with each shot they can create a shot that has sharp focus from the front elements right through to the back elements. Usually not necessary with landscapes or wider angle shots but very handy for closer up or zoomed in work and also where a very low f-stop is needed that creates a narrow depth of field.

MA explained it very well already. I just want to add, that you go with the camera forward (try not to rotate it) to the object and take the shots. Then you use certain Software to get the better DOF. CombineZP for example, which is Freeware, or Zerene Stacker. This one is not Freeware, but also allows rotation of the camera.

Or as I did once ... used layer masking and didn't move the camera at all ... tripod and different focus points with each shot.

Yah...if one had more than three focus points :headslap:

okay so then you stack them via layers and have different elements show through? is there a tutorial on this somewhere?

:) I didn't mean the AF Points ... I mean you manually choose different points to focus on with each shot. Something close for the first shot ... a bit further into the scene for shot 2 ... etc etc.

Not sure ... but it's the same same as the other layer masking technique whether sharpening etc.

The easiest way I imagine is to get that software OWL was talking about and let that create the image for you ... like using HDR software I guess. I haven't done it this way.
