I was not ready for this guy and I think he knew it  Still, despite it's downfalls, I knida liked the rescue:)

I do too. Cool colours. Shows a LOT of motion. He looks like one determined duck too!!

I love those ducks! They're so funny during mating season. They kinda rear up in the water and make this 'grak' sound.

Mating? I can't even get close to them before they first go on a date. For me, next to the wood duck, elusive enough these guys are always swimming or flying at top speed away from me.

The one that I have trouble with is the ring necks. There was a wood duck that wintered over this time because he'd lost his flight feathers. The mallards tried to include him in their pecking order. He bit back. He's half their size.

Will his flight feathers grow back? I sure hope so! Damn...I know so little about ducks but I do really enjoy their presence. My inner Mother is flipping..."If his feathers won't grow back, catch him, box him up and ship him COD to this address and I'll take care of the little fella"

They seem to be growing back. He's in a pond in an apartment complex - one of the residents feeds him, the mallards, and the geese. He reports that he's seen the little guy starting to fly. So I'm thinking the duck is waiting for his buddies to come through again. Should be in the next few weeks - they spend part of the spring and summer on the river.

LOL...I remember now..."He bit back" He's a tenacious little dude taking crap from no place, of course his feathers will grow back :headslap: But then, Mothers will be Mothers :D
