He is rather handsome with the wind in his mane and his tail lifted high. He's a real good looking horse and a pretty color too!

I am sure that you are quite cute, but what if I put a picture of you on entitled 'my handsome guy'? It might get me in trouble.......

Nice capture of a good looking horse. The only thing that would make it better is if he was coming towards the camera.

Is that the ONLY thing is it Iggy? Like ... a hot chick in a bikini wouldn't do? ;)

Well, I suppose. I shouldn't limit it like that. I like your idea.:clap:

Bambi will slap on the stringy now and do a self portrait for us on the horse

thanks Iggy. I wanted one of his going away to show the power of the hind end but that is probably appreciated by horse people only :)

and let me tell you that wearing a bikini and riding is not a good combination. What you don't see in the commercials is the god-awful chafing after.

and I think that my bikini days are long gone. ;)

Very nice shot showing off a nice hip there Bambi. Looks like you just got off from a ride, were you just cooling him off? What is the age of the big fella?

thanks HBG. We had finished a pretty intense training session and I was letting him chill before putting him on the trailer to take him home. He was having a good stretch and enjoying himself :). He's 10 this year. I have owned him since he was 3. We have earned our stripes together over the years. :)

Hey Bambi,

that's a very, very handsome guy (just not comparable with any Australian ).

You catched a great moment, because not one of his hooves is touching the earth!

Wonderful.

good eye MM. you are right, I managed to catch him the moment of suspension when all four hooves are off the ground. when he's really moving it's quite fun to ride.

Very nice photo. His mane and tail show a lot of detail and the coloring is great.

I just dig how this animal is totally airborne  How fast would you say it was running when you froze the moment?

not so fast. it was just a regular working trot so about 12 mph. Horses have 4 basic gaits: walk, trot, canter and gallop (won't get into pacing, running walk or tolt as those are breed specific). All but walk have a certain level of suspension which means that at some point of the gait all 4 feet will be off the ground. Depending on the conformation and strength of the horse the amount of suspension will vary. It comes from power not speed and from power in the hind end. As my horse gains muscle power in his haunches this becomes more and more. Feels a bit like flying really. :D

here's a photo from ages ago:
http://www.opfocus.org/content/v2/s6/opfocus_v3_sx_750.jpg

In 1887, Eadweard Muybridge published pictures from a high-speed camera setup in order to answer the question whether a galloping race horse lifts all feet off the ground at any time. In these early days of high-speed studies, a few pictures per second were sufficient to investigate interesting phenomena. Today, after over a century of development, we are beginning to study the fastest known processes in nature, such as the motion of electrons inside atoms and molecules. up until then it was a matter of debate.
