Guys, what can you tell about Sigma lenses for Canon? Is the quality comparing with Canon, Nikon or Olympus lenses? Or any other brand out there.
I saw that they are cheaper than Canon and that's why make me wonder if the quality isn't that great.

I'm still on my quest to switch to Canon (40D) and I'm studying the option that I have, for a cheaper gear. I don't have yet the money for a 70-200mm f2.8 IS II USM or not even for IS USM, and I'm checking what can I afford for now.

Thank you for your inputs!

Cheers !

Sigma 10-20mm wide angle = great lens...my fave as I have said before in previous threads.
Cheaper does not necessarily mean of poorer quality.....sometimes it means it doesn't have the "name brand" attached to it. :)
Not sure if it true for the lens world, but it is true for many other purchases in life so I figure there must be some shred of truth here as well.

All my lenses are either Canon or Sigma. I like and actually prefer certain Sigma lenses over Canon and at times the Sigma is just as good as the Canon and usually cheaper price but the build and IQ is as good and at times better. I own mostly Canon but like Casil I have the 10 - 20 mm wide angle and love it. Two of my primes are Sigma and both are great pieces of glass, both the 30 mm and 50 mm both f/1.4 primes I highly recommend. All my zooms are besides the wide angle are Canon L lenses. I would highly recommend SIGMA lenses.

Sigma lenses have been out for a long time and the produce a quality product, remember one reason they are less expensive is the optics are design to be used on several cameras and they don't have the expensive engraving ie: Nikon, Canon.....
