Here is what I found Kat.

If you have LR as well, download to LR and export as a Tiff file to CS3. But basically they say you have to convert the file to a Tiff file to use CS3.
Here is a link to ViewNX:

Thanks! Then I guess I should either update or use tiff from the camera..lol.
I'll get to reading that as soon as I have a moment!
Thanks Jas! Very much appreciated!

did you install the nikon transfer software?
I installed it and I can view the images on the transfer/upload thing but I can't open the Raw ones in photoshop. I keep getting an error message.

You can try the free DNG converter. :) That'll work with CS3...

It converts your Nikon specific RAW files to the Adobe standard of RAW. Using DNG files (digital negative) keeps all the information of the RAW, but uses a generic file format. DNG can be opened by every software imaginable... ;)
You can get a free converter to turn all your NEF files into DNG without loss of information and this will solve all compatibility problems. :)
(God, I do sound like a salesperson. I do mean it though...)
sweet..and nothing is lost! I think that would be the way to go..

In college the library still has CS2 and I found I could not use my Pentax RAW files with it. On reading however I found there was a plug-in to allow it to work. Since I don't have admin rights I never went into it any further.
CS4 was the same and some functions don't work until you install the plug-ins contact sheet I know required a plug-in and it catches one out when moving from computer to computer as you forget which functions are standard and which need adding.
