I awoke to a cold, grey, overcast morning this morning. Actually it was still dark when I got up but it became cold and grey once the sun 'got up', not that we could see it.

Before long though a flock of 8 Sulphur Crested Cockatoos flew in to eat from my bird stump. These are a common sight around this area throughout the year. We often see them flying about the trees or feeding in the grasses while driving, walking or riding bikes. Occasionally though they will come and visit the house instead of just flying over and yelling obscenities to us. AT least it sounds like obscenities I think.

After awhile a couple of Rainbow Lorikeets joined in but only briefly. Intimidated by the larger Cockatoos I guess.
We get Rainbow Lorikeets here all year also and we see them in the backyard far more often. Almost every, single afternoon they fly over the house on their way to the trees they huddle in over night.

Something I was fascinated by was the fact the Rainbows were intimidated by the Cockatoos. Last time I saw these two birds in close proximity to each other the noisy Rainbows were far more aggressive and the Cockatoos sat back and patiently waited.

Forgive the noisy shots, I was forced to use ISO 800 to get a half decent (still too slow though) shutter speed due to the low light.

Very nice series MA. No prob with noise as I see it. Love the narrative also.

Thanks HBG. The larger versions show more noise. But considering I shot these through closed windows I'm happy. Good timing that I cleaned all the house windows yesterday afternoon before mowing the lawn!

The first photo is rather cool with the wing of one bird framing the second!
