    Hey Claudio,

It's an interesting shot but I do not understand the intent here. Can you elaborate on your intent and please let me know if you'd like me to comment on the image. I took a look at the other images in the series CV | f o t o g r a f i s*|*Bicycle Gauze and even though I still don't know what I'm looking at, I find some of those images considerably stronger (just my opinion).

    Thx!
    Marko

    Hi Marko,

Thanks so much for looking over my bicycle series. I'm afraid I don't have any intent to declare or even any justification for any of my photos, beyond the chance discovery of something that is pleasing to me. With this series especially the element of chance precluded any kind of planning or intention - they are all the result of blind experimentation, pure fooling around. Naturally I would be interested to hear if anyone else sees anything pleasing in them, and I also posted a few to MaxArtis, where a number of people replied in resonance with my own feelings. For example (translating from the Italian): "very delicate high-key that magically transmutes the silhouette of the bicycle... an ethereal series, poetic, where your fantasy personalizes the components of the bicycle into plays of light and geometrical form that make us drift into a world of fable, of iridescent opal..." etc. Other people had other comments, but mostly along the same lines, and to me they verbalized some of what I liked in this series much better than I could have. I'm sure anyone with sufficient verbal skills could come up with impressive art gallery type blurbs in whatever the latest fashion is, but in the end as with music or any art, the experience has to be direct and one on one, it either works or it doesn't, 'I like it' or 'I don't like it'.

But maybe I don't understand what you mean by intent....

All good Claudio - If it's pure experimentation, and blind fooling around, then the goal is play and chance plays a bigger part in the results.

Hey Claudio: quite an interesting collection. I quite like them. They are evocative of bicycles, which are one of my loves, but I think that's just because you gave them a name. But they don't seem to be photographs to me. While I can accept that you may have used a camera to produce the images, there's something missing for me: a clear object. You seem to have produced some art with circles in it that may appear to be bicycles. To me that's not the same as a photograph. Just my opinion of course. I see you have them for sale, but that function is not working on your website. Any takers?
Welcome to this forum in any case. Hope you will keep contributing.

Rest assured, this is standard black and white photography, done digitally, but could have been done exactly the same with gelatin silver. These are low-ligh photographs of my bicycle with camera movement, later changing the negative to positive. You may find comparable examples of abstraction among photographers of renown, Moholy-Nagy, Giacomelli, Siskind, Kertesz and others - such abstractions were trademarks of the modernist movement.

Thanks all for taking a look, --Claudio
