Hi, I'm new to this site...my brother recommended that I join a forum to get tips and advice in this area from unbiased people.
Anyways, I'm in grade 11 and preparing to join the real world. I'm a little scared about the reliability of being a photographer so if any of you have advice or anything for me that would be great!
Art and photography is my life- there's nothing I would rather do.

Any career in the Arts, can be a crap shoot as far as monetary returns go. If you are willing to do a lot of self promotion and hustle, you are likely to do very well. It has to be something you really love to do. I mean, really, really love. Many high schools have photography courses to get you started and their are various college courses, including photojournalism. Ultimately, you will have to decide how much hustle you have, whether photography is your passion or whether a different career would be better with art and photography as hobbies. But please participate in the forums, show your photos, ask for critiques. You can put as many photos in critique as you want and ask as many questions as you can think of, no limit although we ask that you post one photo per thread in critique. Looking at other photos and critiquing them is also a good way to learn as well.

This is my look on it..and what I would of done if I had the chance to go back in time. I think I would of taken what photography courses I could learn from. You know.. ones on lighting, ect. I wouldn't have taken a full bachelor for it. Instead, I would have got a degree in business so that I would have that side down. I think that may be the down fault of a lot of photographers..not the art side but the business side.

I'd say, visit some school. Talk to lots of people that will be part of your choices. No matter what, it a decision that will not be made easy!

    Good luck.
