    Hi,
I am looking to upgrade and get a better camera and would love some advice. I have started to look and already don't know what to do. I mostly take pics of nature - that is my love - so I need a macro and a moderate telephoto. I also want to be able to have a high resolution as I may have larger copies made.

I also want to be able to look through the view finder like in the olden days At this point price would be mid range not too expensive.

Thanks in advance for any advice/info

    Hi skyblue

key question is do you have any old lenses lying around - if so you may want to check out the entry level cameras of that brand.

If Not an entry level canon or Nikon will be fab. Which one partially depends on how big your hands are and how these cameras feel in your hand....so it's best to try before you buy (at least hold it in your hands a bit)

I'm a big fan of the camera store and have been a customer before they started sponsoring this site because their pricing is usually the best in canada and they are an uber-friendly company to work with.
    Here's 2 entry models w/lens I can easily recommend https://www.thecamerastore.com/produ...35-56-vr-black

    hope that may help

If you have the time and can spare the money, once you have a list of candidates, you might consider renting a body and lens for a few days, just to see how they feel. There are a number of places that are on the internet, and you might have a few places locally. I don't remember the Canadian ones, but I know they exist. Google should turn them up.

    hey,
disclaimer: this is strictly my opinion and not necessarily true!! I am not very far off from where i started.

1:: consider if u want something as big as dslr, there are mirror less system, prosumers, bridge cameras to consider. nikon p7700, canon g12, sony rx100 .....way long list. U can check in camera explore in flickr to c results of these cameras by other people. they seem to give excellent results under right hands!! many of them will fulfill yr conditions to varying degrees.

2:: Also confusion regarding dslr is never ending, starts with camera body, than lens, than filters, bag, tripod(i am on this right now, podcast 98!!), flash, lens again n again

3:: dont get stuck in canon vs nikon debate , compare with models, also check an older model to what u r considering currently . they might be better and cheaper. Hope this helps,

    Regards
