Question Carrying 70-200 2.8 with Blackrapid sling - attach to camera or lens?

I was wondering about this. I have been clipping the Blackrapid to the camera, but is this putting too much pressure on the lens mount.

Should it be clipped to the lens or the camera (or doesn't matter)?

After posting the question above, I went and did some research on the web (should have done it first). Most suggest clipping it to the camera for two good reasons:

    1. With it attached to the camera, the lens hangs straight down, keeping the lens clean and safe from bumping

    2. If it is attached to the lens, there is uneven pressure on the mount, unlike when attached to the camera, it hangs down, giving fairly even pressure on the mount.

To me there would be no "exact" correct answer to this, as it would rely a lot on body also. If you are carrying a lightweight plastic bodied camera I would be quite hesitant to be hanging a 3 lb weight off of it, but if carrying a heavier metal bodied camera, I see no prob. I carry mine with strap on camera with the 1DMkIV.
Another little tip is when you grab your camera for that "quick" shot you don't want to miss, always grab lens also as you raise to the eye. This will alleviate the extreme forces on the mount as you raise the camera to the eye with a larger lens such as this.
