    Exclamation terror d90 /nikonian traiter

    Hi
I have a d50 and have enjoyed the camera from footprint to the menus and button size
I shoot raw and love hdr
yesterday after saving for a year I got my highly awaited d90 drooling
first I installed Transfer having a stand alone machine it couldnt download the raw codec
I contacted nikon tech and the non english fluent person couldnt give me an answer
after I set the time and date I put on my favorite lens 50mm 1.8
took a pic of my kitten
the lcd looked like it had a mesh on it
then I tried to navigate through the menus to set things as Ken rockwell had advised
perhaps if I shave down my fingers I could press the micro buttons
the footprint was also diminished from even my d50
point and shoot? Funny I thought i had a dslr

    Sorry nikon adieu
    canon 50d here I come

not completely sure I understand it all, but is D90 and it's buttons really that much smaller than the D50? I thought the "footprint" (which I am interpreting as overall size) of the D90 would be same or bigger. And the buttons, maybe a bit smaller since there may be more of them, but not enough to take a loss on equipment and jump ship.... If you like HDR you should enjoy the noise performance of the D90. RAW conversion for NEFs - there were a couple easy/free solutions proposed in your other thread on this. If your biggest gripe is with the lack of included software (Capture NX) I'm with you there....it's always cheesed me off that Nikon doesn't include it like Pentax and Canon and most if not all other mfgs do. That said, I think Capture is way more software than the others mentioned- but at least include a light version...and at least for the midrange to higher end bodies like D90 and up.

But if I read your other thread correctly you have some variant of Lightroom 1.X so I think if you install the latest version of ACR compatible with that version it should handle your NEFs just fine. That solution would be free of cost and very easy to do....if my hunch is right. Let me know if you'd like some help with that.

I don't know. It seems like you picked the wrong camera to meet your expectations. Most camera stores will let you play around with a camera extensively before you buy it. They will let you come back over and over again too. I had a bug in my brain for a 10-24mm lens and they let me try on the F2.8 and the 2.8 70-200mm for good measure. Both very nice lenses but more than I can justify paying as a non professional. I ended up buying the 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 and came back a week later to get the slower f3.5-4.5 10-24mm.

Oh and I must add that although Ken Rockwell has some good advice and explains how to use the products, you are the one who will be using the camera not Ken Rockwell.

Could be, but the D90s a really nice camera and very highly rated by most. I gotta think it's a know-what-to-expect step up from the D50 he had previously. I think that the OP's just not getting along with it right now. Maybe he'll warm up to it later. But from his "point and shoot" comment, and his other recent thread, I'm thinking a big part of the dissatisfaction is that he feels confined to shooting jpeg with a lack of an included RAW converter....and we've given him some potential fixes for that issue. We'll see what happens.
