Very dramatic image, I really like it. The sky is amazing.

it's interesting, because in your notes you don't mention HDR, and yet when I look at at, I'm definitely reminded (at least a little) of the typical signature HDR effect.

I really like the composition - the only thing that bugs me a little is the snow in the ground is a little grey - this is probably intentional if you darkened it to make the building pop more.

    Still - impressive image!

    Hi Ben,

Good point about the snow on the ground - needs to be dodged a bit more.

No this is not an HDR. Single image. I use a technique whereby I make use of the shadow & highlight tool in photoshop, and I also do a conversion between RGB and Lab color before doing the B&W conversion. I'll post the color version some time tomorrow.

    Regards,

    MikeV

Cool - look forward to it.

Yes, I realise it's not an HDR, I just just pointing out that (to me) it has some of the visual characteristics of one - perhaps through your use the pushing/pulling the shadows/highlights, maybe..?

The colour one is quite attractive, but in this case your processed image is by far the better one imo - it has more drama, and more visual interest. Good job!

Thanks for posting - certainly one of the better images I've seen here so far.

I like the b/w, my only nit would be to clone out the disruptions in the foreground snow.

    Nice work!
