    Default Spot lit

okay, so our photography club challenge for next week is flowers. I know that I take a lot of photos of flowers but I am always unsatisfied as they just look like photos of flowers. I want to be creative. So I decided to take it inside and play with lights, backgrounds, etc.

this is a simple study of the rose- I simply turned the lights down and then spotlit the flower using a flashlight. I exaggerated the dark in PP with a dodge brush and a vignette.

    Rip me apart.

Beautiful work Bambi. Nicest I've seen of your shots. Really nice!

Wish we had a photo club here. Nothing close by. Maybe an hour or more drive.

I like the lighting and DOF. If I had to find some thing to critic, it might be a bit too centred for me. and maybe the material it is on has a bit too much detail/texture and steals some of the attention?

Well done, Bambi. You nailed it. Love how the petals fade out of sharpness. Really nice.

Lovely work, Bambi and I don't really have much to say other than one's been said. Very well done, Bambi, but do yourself a favour and go to the dollar store and pick up a sheet of white and a sheet of black bristol board. It'll give you a much smoother and less distracting background with which to work. Lay it on a table or the floor or bed or something and put something behind it so you get a smooth curve.

I keep coming back to this one, so I'll be contrary. I actually like the texture of the cloth you've set it on. Yes, it's a little too prominent, mostly in color, I think, but if you tone it down a touch, both the color and the knobby loops add to the picture.
