yet another try at orton

okay I've processed some input and want to see if I've learned anything

I went out last weekend and took a slew of pictures. still working through them but these two seemed to be appropriate for the effect. However, I'm not sure if it's too saturated. I didn't boost the saturation but it seems a bit strong. should I try to mute it abit?

Oooooo. I really like the first one. Nice capture. Maybe a touch overexposed in the highlights. Always hard to control in this type of scene. I'm still trying to figure out how to handle it. Generally, I just try to avoid it by re-composing. I don't have enough experience with Orton yet to give an opinion on it though. I think I've probably being overdoing it a bit to turn mine into a "dreamy" image.

Overall, these are looking dark to me. Ortons should be busting with light at the outset or the shadowed areas will be very dark after they are processed.

These shots have deep shadows that take away from the effect. The top left of the first photo looks decent, but there is way too much dark shadow throughout the rest of the shot.

Choosing a simple subject (like a group of brightly lit leaves as opposed to a forest with many areas of deep shadow) will make learning Orton much easier.

I like the first one. It looks more painterly than orton. Too much going on in the second one.
