If you have zero crop on an image, what deminsions can it be printed?

If you have zero crop on an image, what deminsions can it be printed? For example, the image of my two daughters next to the painted wall mural, I had to print it 8x12 (or could have done 5x7). I printed it out 8x10 first, and it cropped off her arm on the right and put my other daughter just on the edge.

The two images of my daughters in the tree. I printed them 8x10, but I lost the lower foot on both images (or the top of their heads would have been cropped).

Basically my question should be, how do you take in consideration of print ability when taking the shot?

I did learn recently on Lightroom what the image would look like on different sizes and the place where I am now printing them (a professional print shop, not Wal-Greens), lets me move the images around after I upload them, so I can see how they will be printed.

Here is how it came out when I printed it 8x10
I don't know how y'all just didn't run me out of here with the junk I was posting. I think I was hoping the great images would just appear by pushing the shutter button.

I learned a lot here from you patience people, and can now say I am at least getting images worthy of framing.

I know I still have a long way to go, but once again, thank you for all your help and critiques. I want y'all to stay on my ass, tell what I could have done differently, etc.

This site is 1000x better than any other site I post on. All other sites are mostly guys pounding their chest in their latest conquest photoshoot, not really helping the hobbiest.

(BTW, I'm going to get these reprinted. For some reason they felt they had to crop my photos. I only framed them for a last minute Mother's Day present)

I am headed to New Orleans for the first time to shoot. I take New Orleans for granted because it's only 40 minutes from my house. I'm sure many of you and many other photographers would love to shoot New Orleans and its great history. I see some of y'all's pictures up in there in Canada. Nova Scotia would be one of my greatest places to shoot. I love the coastal fishing villages like Bambi shot.

Are you like me and take for granted the places around you to shoot? You see all these beautiful shots from other people around the country and around the world and wish you could shoot there not realizing what you have in your own backyard?

You should be able to view the original file size (5760x3840) I think it looks nice and sharp. Does it look up to par?

Hi Guys.

Here's a question for you. I was shooting pinhole images with my Canon 5DmkII on Sunday using a pinhole made from my camera cover. When I started to edit the pictures I had the scare of my life when I discovered small circles all over the images, and I mean hundreds, firstly I thought my sensor had dust all over it but all the circles are the same shape although some are lighter then the others, there are also some long black marks almost like there is creepy crawly's in my camera. I took my camera out and shot images with the normal lenses and it was fine, nothing at all. I know it has to be something to do with the pinhole but can anyone explain the exact cause please before I write to Canon and ask. They certainly are circles of confusion.

In the past year or so, I have purchased nearly $4000 in equipment, watched hours and hours of blogs, videos, but still cannot get that shot. I treat images like a golf shot, anyone can hit a golf ball, it takes hours of correct practice to hit it consistently and make it go where you want it to go. In the 1000's of photograph golf balls I've hit, I've only hit it correctly a half dozen times. I have an eye for subject and I know what I want to accomplish, but still my images just look like snap shots, not works of art.

People tell me to watch this blog or that blog, but I know what and how to do what they are talking about.

I do feel I get out there to shoot and lose my mind, cannot remember a thing, like writers' block or psyching yourself out when you step to the plate in baseball.

Any suggestion?

This New change to UK law has been brought to our attention. In the past camera club competitions have required meta data to be removed to ensure noisy judges can't find out who it belongs to. I think this will now need to stop. Some of what is said does not seem to make sense as far as registry goes and likely there are bits missed out with the report. Writing my web pages where I want to show a picture belonging to some one else I use a link. This way the owner still has the option to remove the image. However unless one reviews pages regular it is easy for one not to realise when link is lost. As a result many forums prefer to have the image hosted by themselves as the sysops will not be checking for lost links. The new rules likely make it easier for forums to import photos linked to so links are not lost.

The report does seem odd in other ways why should UK based companies be pushing a UK government to change things before they get the US to change so I would think there is some biased reporting but worth taking note anyway.

I wonder if we could do something similar for the forum? Rather than just pile a bunch of images into the theme of the month actually go head to head in a competition (for fun!) and find out ways we can get better at photography. Learn how people interpret the challenge and then solve it along with solving various photography issues. The series was kind of fun but I really liked seeing the images critiqued as well.
