Purple Fringing

Im at work right now and will post an image as an example later.

I have one lens that has a problem with this around high contrast areas. There are ways to remove or elp reduce this problem through PP but I have never attempted to fix it and usually just set the images aside. Is there anyone out there that has experienced this problem and dealt with it?

Is it fixed with selective coloring adjustements................??

One thing I do know, is it is best solved by using a different lens. I am getting a new lens in the next couple months but would like to know how to fix the problem with other images I have. They are good images except the purple fringing.. so annoying.

I have software that comes with Canon cameras which contains lens profiles, which means the software can automatically remove the fringing based on the pixels and what the metadata says which lens/focal length etc was used.

You can do it manually in many image editing apps though, like Photoshop, which has a "lens correction" filter.

Do you mean that look of lens vignette? I have one lens that does that when it's at a certain length and conditions. I just do what Ben H posted.

It can definately be a hinderince (however you spell it) at times!

Here is one of the images that was ruined by the purple fringing. I opened up photoshop and checked out my filters, there was nothing in there dealing with lens corrections. Probably because Im still using CS2.

Is there any other way to deal with this?

I have to be honest - I'm not seeing what you are referring to. Where exactly are you seeing this fringing?

I don't see anything purple either? Except for around the ball cap?

There is distinct purple fringing around the perimeter of the subject's hat, but it seems fairly minor. I'm not sure if CS2 has this capability (Filters > Distortion > Lens correction (I think) ). As far as alternate methods, it's a difficult thing to fix, but you can try selecting the area and using the colour-balance control.

yep, its around the hat. Maybe its just me expecting perfection, but it is quite bad in the full version. Remember, uploading through the forum degrades the image quality so maybe that has something to do with it. The NCAA championship is coming up the last week in May and I want to have this under control by then. The new lens should fix that, but would still like to know how to fix it in PP too. Also, landscapes of the course are sometimes ruined when there is fringing around the flag. Just some minor technical issues that prevent images from being in the upper echelon of quality.
