If you look at the trunk at the right side of the photo, you'll see a bit of metal. It's a sign that tells the rafters that there are porta potties ahead (during the summer season, at least). So they'll not only have to haul this tree out of the way before the float season starts, they'll have to find another tree to nail the sign to. Oh, and I thought it was a nice view of the river.

Looks like a nice, strong river. Such things are rare where I live. Our streams and small rivers all dry up within weeks without rain. The only big rivers around here that appear to be flowing all the time tend to be those that are tidal.
It must be so nice to walk along a trail and suddenly be blessed with such an environment.

That trail and the surrounding brush is my sanity some days. There's so much to see within that short stretch I can reach on my lunch hour. I've got a couple of spots I need to visit before the poison ivy comes back full force and cuts the trails off. Not that I can't get through the brush; I'm just not that fond of calamine lotion. Other spots that are dry channels during the winter are probably filling with water now.

Though it's not as extreme as where you're at, California tends to have dry creeks, streams and small rivers during the summer. It was actually a bit odd when I first moved to Idaho to see small channels with water year round.

For a larger, deeper river, the Snake runs through not far from my house (a couple of miles away). It's on my list of things to try and photograph, along with the petroglyphs along Map Rock Road. (We finally spotted them. Had been looking for several years)

I guess that is a remnant from my childhood in New Zealand. No such thing as a river or stream drying up I remember.
