So, I am making a return to film. I picked up a Nikon f5 really cheap. I can't believe how affordable one of the best film cameras are now. I picked up one, brand new, in the box.

I shot film from 7th grade through high school and some years after, then digital ousted film. I decided I would pick up a new film camera as a third camera to keep with me. Besides, I just wanted to shoot film again with something decent this time.

Ok. I got this thing and I am loving it again. Anyone that shoots Nikon I advise getting one of these (under $400) to go with your D lenses.

I've been shooting two or three rolls of B&W a week with my old K1000 for over a month now.

I want a F5 real bad. A fellow on the local craigslist has a body he describes as near perfect for $385. Is there any way of knowing how much the shutter has been used on a F5?

Aren't the S type lenses compatible?

Not sure. I have D lenses for it... I wish the G's would fit though.

I got my f5 cheap and here is my evaluation on a film camera... if they shot just 50,000 shots that is an incredible amount of film. We are talking a round about 1500 rolls of film here. That is just 1/3 of the 150k it is rated for. Keep in mind that some can go much longer.

Pick up an f5, you will be very happy with it.

Knowing that the trigger's been pulled on the F5, when will we get to see some of the results?

By coincidence I saw this test today pitting the Digital D700 by Nikon against Nikon's F5 at ISO 400 at making GIANT sized prints.
Although there are variables that are unknown (Ie how was the analog neg was scanned) the test is interesting and the winner is the D700.
