Music - What are you listening to?

Sitting here at this late hour going through some recent shoots I realize that I listen to music most days the whole time I am awake, from the time I hop out of bed until and even after the lights go out I have music on. Even when I shoot I am listening to music, at venues or when I am just shooting inanimate objects I have the head phones on, I have my Truck hooked up with an iPod adapter because nothing besides sex that is, is better than driving, shooting and listening to music.

I find my musical mood usually shadows the mood of my photography. If it is an aggressive sounding band or music my photos seem to reflect that, if I am in a melancholy mood the same. Sometimes it has it very schizophrenic moments also, well not really moments just a daily events. So I just thought I needed a break so thought I would start a post about what you listen to also.

The idea behind it is band, song title and any comments you have about the song if you do. I would hope to keep it cool, no well I like everything but, or everything sucks but, you get the gist of it. I have a very simple musical theory and it simplifies how I class my music, there is music I like, there is music I don't and part of the idea of the thread is stuff I have yet to hear.

I am one of the few people I know who still listens to vinyl, I listen to CD's, MP3's, etc also but like with a lot of things at my age, some things are just nostalgic. So to get the idea off the ground I will just post a group of random songs off todays music list.

Dandy Warhols - You Were the Last High (Pop,Alt Rock one of those bands I just enjoy)

Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head ( I just absolutely love this band, astounding )

Bobby Darin - About a Quarter to Nine (A Huge Bobby Darin Fan, love most of his stuff)

Peter Tosh - Sinner Man (Rare record to actually own, the best song Tosh ever did, I like other music of his but this song to me is not the classic is should be)

Johnny Cash - Hurt (Cash and his music is very nostalgic, even the Rick Rubin Years sound like they just should have always been)

Frank Sinatra - It was a Very Good year (Absolute cool suave song)

lil Wayne - Prom Queen (His first "Rock" release, got a copy of the song only this morning)

lil Wayne ft Birdman - Stuntin Like My Daddy (Great Fast Paced Hard Rap)

Abd Al Malik - 12 septmebre (Very Political French Muslim Rap, not a single song he has done I do not enjoy)

X-Japan - Art of Life (Has to be the live version, this song has only been done only 3 or 4 times live, it is a 30 minute song. X-Japan is a Goth/Glam Heavy Metal Japanese band,they do a few songs in English, the Art of Life is sung only in English, I think the Drummer/Pianist (Yoshki) is phenomenal, and the Guitar Player Hide (Hyde sometimes, pronounced Heedae), who eventually went on to to do some very hard core J/Punk that I just thought was great died a few years ago)

Anyway I will just add a song here and there, and love to hear what everyone else listens to, always looking for new songs. And I will try not to ramble on about songs, I have an inordinate amount of useless musical knowledge and useless trivia, so I will try and not bore you all with it.

I’m a huge music fan, too. My tastes are eclectic, but I tend to listen to jam bands like Umphrey’s McGee, Widespread Panic, and Phish. New Grass is also a favorite. I particularly like Nickel Creek, Chris Thile, Railroad Earth, and The Waybacks.

I have a little over 60gigs on my 80gig iPod Classic that stays in my truck and could easily fill it three or four times over with what I’ve ripped from the internet streams with a program called Station Ripper. It works flawlessly with iTunes. I have a couple 8gig Nanos for the walk abouts while shooting and such. I have so much music now, that I just stopped ripping. I’ll never be able to listen to all of it.

I too love music but don't listen to it as often as A.L.

I always seem to head back to music with great lyrics (Dylan, Cohen, Spears ) but I love all kinds of music.

I'm listening to more and more house,chill, trance, or electronica these days and i'm really getting into it. I LOVE music with a strong percussive beat.

Some of the people I'm listening to these days include Tiesto, Thievery Corporation, Claude Challe, Stéphane Pompougnac

A far less conventional type of music that I got into about 15 years ago is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. An amazing (now deceased) Pakistani singer, singing about mysticism with an ensemble of top musicians playing some ancient instruments...just awesome IMO. A while ago they used his music for the movie Natural born Killers and he was livid when he realized that some of the music was used in scenes that showed cold blooded murder.

I know all of you probably listen to something while editing and importing your pictures. Its another way to get to know one another in a different way outside of pictures. Anyways, I got the idea from another forum, and thought it would be a good idea here as well.

Anyways, back to the script. Was on youtube today checking out a few sports videos. Searched sportscenter and got this. Video is kind of cool but nothing amazing.

Acadie, you might want to check it out if your into Wayne. Its the first time Ive heard this. Its really not too bad, Wayne is a genious when he wants to be. An idiot at other times though. Yeah, here is what I was listening/watching.

I listen to all music from hard core 90's gangster rap to classic piano jazz to hardcore face melting metal. Also, while I am shooting it depends. I listen to music constantly and it changes with mood and I generally change within days. Last week was Easy-E, 2-Live Crew and N.W.A.. This week it is Gaslight Anthem, Social Distortion, Bad Religion and a few others. I think I am going to do Bob Marley and Peter Tosh all next week. Getting to the time of year where reggae is always in the rotation.

I still have vinyl. I also still have my old Technique turntables. I used to be a rave/club DJ

Hmmm..I like all kinds of music. All depends on what I'm doing.

Pop/rock for walks out for photos. Dance/pumping music for working out. And anything really if I'm by the computer.

Right now I got Limp Bizkit on... but that should change next song..gotta love shuffle

When I'm shooting I don't listen to any music because it's sometimes what I hear around me that leads me to the next shot, I shoot a lot of birds and wildlife. When I'm in the darkroom It is usually Spa, Classical or film and fantasy soundtracks. Just goofin off is rock time. Just killed my Sirius radio with a hammer because it was forever dropping out so now it's back to Shoutcast

Country, Rock n Roll (50's and 60's), and a whole mixture of other stuff like Eagles, Creedance, Cold Chisel, and I enjoy the odd modern hit as they come along but can't say too much in the way of modern stuff excites me these days.
Most of the time I listen to podcasts of either Marko here or Chris (the worlds greatest rambler but an incessant podcaster) Marquardt as the only time I listen to anyhting like music or podcasts is in the van on the way and from work.
