Tell me something: the dialation of the eyes suggests lots of light, yet the image does not seem to support this. Are the lion's eyes differnt from other cats, or am I just seeing things?

"The eyes are also well-adapted for use under very low light. This helps the lion hunt at night." Found this on Lion Facts. So it sounds like it wouldn't take much light to cause the dilation.
