Views from the Boise Depot

The depot building is open limited hours on Sunday and Monday from mid-June through September. So I paid a visit last Monday during my lunch hour. I arrived just as the docent was taking some people up to the bell tower, so I took advantage of the invitation to join them. (The groups go up via a key controlled elevator. There are stairs, but those are blocked off for liability reasons)

A view from the bell tower. It's open on all 4 sides. They tried leaving the openings uncovered for the photographers, but had too many problems with pigeons.


The largest of the bells. It has a hammer on each side, the rest have just one. It was a sunny day, so there wasn't much help for the lighting. The trees you see are in Ann Morrison Park, which is sort of next door.


A classic view towards downtown. I'm standing at the top of the garden area on one of the benches. The state capital building is at the end of the road, but I don't think you can pick it out unless you know what you're looking for. It's a domed building if you want to try.

As a bonus, inside the depot building. WARNING: Rude use of high ISO and on camera flash ahead. It really shows in one shot.

From the balcony you see in photo 1. Even with a very high ISO I had to really lighten the heck out of this, and it shows. Even so, you can see the painted decorations on the beams. There are a few visible in the other photo, too.


A couple of fountains. I don't think they work. I suspect they're details from the original depot, but that much of the interior has been redone. There may not have been much of the original to restore.

Here's a thread we let slip by unnoticed ...

You'd think they'd have left a section of the netting that people could pull back to take photos if pigeons are the issue.

You should show us more of your Boise area, it looks nice.
