This impacted me in a huge way. I choked up upon reading it and seeing the photos. They still haunt me.
I know it is on the agenda amongst the G8 leaders this weekend but I really doubt anything will come of it being on the adgenda

A painter takes their vision and makes it a reality. A photographer takes reality and makes it their vision.
I could not agree more Bambi.
Also sad that the subject of Maternal Mortality will probably only have lip service payed to it by the powers that be at the G8 and that will be it.

I think the point has been missed here, birth control is not the real problem. It is a total lack of human rights for these women. Being forced to marry someone at 14 makes me think they would not take a second thought to beating you if you had an abortion or even prevented them for having their children that you owe them. We are talking a place where female genital mutilation occurs.

no argument from me on this Greg. The rights of women are violated in so many places in the planet it's difficult to fathom. However, Harper's stance on the abortion continues to violate the right to choice and it represents an incredible lack of compassion or awareness.

~~ Rule of thirds is for whimps ~~I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 67° water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?
Not only FGM but fistulas are a real problem for these women as well. If a woman ends up with a fistula (that repairing involves basic surgery) during childbirth (which usually happensin the case of obstructed childbirth when the baby cannot pass though the canal and if childbirth lasts more than 2 days can last up to 7 days. The baby dies after the 2nd or 3rd day without medical intervention ie caesarian section) she is then shunned (or killed) by her husband b/c she is considered to be dirty and unclean.
