I only recently got the new iPhone which allegedly has a half-decent camera in it, here's a couple of early efforts:

(As you can see, even this supposedly decent phone cam still sucks in gloomy conditions![]()

KEWL!
Holding the phone as steady as humanly possible is another good tip.

Oh yes, definitely hold it steady if possible. That's one flaw with the iPhone actually, if you hold the phone in landscape orientation and are planning to use the volume-up button as the shutter release (this is a long overdue feature), the lens is stupidly in the bottom right corner not top right or top left corners. So if you hold it in what I consider the 'normal' compact-camera way, your right ring finger will cover up the lens. To avoid that you have to use only your thumb and forefinger on your right hand, which makes it hard to hold steady.
That's a cool filter in your photo Jacqueline, what app is that from?
Yep, decent light and hold the camera steady. I always wait to make sure the camera has settled on a focus point before touching the shutter.
It is an android vintage camera app. It has a choice of 5 camera applications. It's great fun!

I did not realize it but the retro camera has an iphone app as well:
Retro Camera Plus für iPhone, iPod touch (4. Generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi und iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G im iTunes App Store
I don't know why that is in German but I think you can figure it out![]()
