I was thinking that since we have been doing the photo of the month for a while now it would be kind of cool to have a vote on a year's worth of photos for a photo of the year. Maybe two votes? One for the members choice award and one for Marko's? Also having a little note under the name to show awards won might be kind of cool. It would be a tiny bit of incentive to improve photographically, maybe?
Also it might be a nice idea to let members put their own subtitle under their name say after 100 posts and one year of membership or something like that.
Just a couple of ideas.

For the photo of the year.... I'm into it but how would it work? All the photos are scattered.... we could choose only from the nominated photos...that would make it easier and we'd STILL likely be talking about a couple of hundred images.....what say you?
For the custom usertitle after X posts - I'm into that.

At the very least, it would be nice to have a single "sticky" post of past winners so you could sort of put them all in one area.
I like the idea but by only picking from the winners we run into the problem of not letting everyone participate which may not be a problem but I mention it because it seems somehow unfair even though it really isn't. Catch my drift or am I totally lost?

This would be the way to go IMHO. Vote on the winners of the month for the year. Great idea
And when exactly are the "Cows" due home?
