    Default On The Move

Firstly would like to apologize for the lack of involvement here as of late. Has been an utter madhouse here lately, and have not had any free time to myself much lately.
As many of you know we have a piece of farmland/bush, (160 acres) in northeastern Ontario. Well, we had a call from the real estate agent we used for an appraisal on our property last fall asking if we would be interested in selling. We kinda hummed and hawed about it for a couple seconds, then said, "What the hell, sure". Now, we were planning on moving eventually, but this was moving our plans along at an accelerated rate. They had a young couple looking for just such a property as ours and wanted to know if they could show it right away. Two days later we were in signing up with the agent, as the other buyers agent was showing our home. We were not even done signing up our agent yet for the contract when the one showing our home came in and threw papers in front of us with an offer. A counter-offer on our part that was instantly accepted, and all done in less than two hours. WOW!
NOW WHAT???? Time to start on a plan. I just love doing things spontaneously, such as just selling my home with nowhere to live at the moment. Makes life interesting though.
Well, going to put a cozy little home on a rock within the trees, down on our other property we just purchased in Muskoka area last year. It is almost 8km back off the nearest tarmac into an old growth pine forest with no neighbours to the south for a few kms, and no others to the west for a couple kms also. The rest is all crown land for miles. We have just approx 50 acres with a 5-7 acre lake/marsh and two islands, which, one is approx 100 ft across and the other is much smaller. It is def my dream property, but lots of hardships to go through yet.
Will be living in a trailer while building, (oh yay!), and building on a rock is quite challenging. No hydro within 1+ km of us also, so all off-grid solar. Propane heat, as no natural gas lines, plus want as much off electrical as we can in the home for our solar array to handle the loads. Septic system, as grey water not allowed in the district with the size of home we are building, which is another challenge with the rock.
Have been so busy on phone, computer/internet doing research, and getting contractors and such lined up. Just mind boggling. I do get a quick glimpse in here at all your wonderful photos, but not enough time lately to post/comment. This is a lull in the activity so thought I would explain my absence, and a little of my insanity. Things have died down a little here, now that we are getting everything lined up, so hopefully can get on here a little more.
Now if all of this snow would melt we could get started on getting a few things done.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

Lot to happen all at once but seems to be a really good thing for you, the Muskoka's are a great place to live and lots of photo opportunities as well. Hope it goes smoothly for you and congrats.

Wow! Pretty crazy stuff. Congrats. Sounds like it's something that you want to do even if it was a bit sudden.

After all the photos you've posted for the place you are now I can't believe you're moving away from it. You'll need to post some from the new location to show us what pulled you away. Good luck with the house and it's challenges.

Wow - no doing things by halves. That is very exciting HBG and I hope it all comes together for you. Having recently built myself I understand the time and commitment involved (but that wasnt in a remote area, nor living out of a trailer, nor dealing with rock, installing services or temperature extremes etc). You will have some "interesting" times ahead, but it will be wonderful to be in a home that suits you on the land you love.
I welcome all critique and comments on any of my photos

Congrats on your new adventure. As Runmonty said you definitely don't go half way in anything you do. I know it is going to be a lot of hard work but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. I hope you will manage to find some spare time to get out and get some pictures. Looking forward to seeing what your new area and home look like.

p.s. I suspect this is not far from my sister's place in the remote outskirts of Huntsville so I have a general idea of the area.

I second that. I sure wish you are going into an even more challenging area ... by the few images we got to see, seems like a dream come true ...
