I enjoyed this podcast but the good doctor skipped over a very important element to stop motion photography. He was concentrating on his shutter speed to freeze the motion of the drops when he should have been more worried about his flash. If he would have reversed his lighting and used his flash as a main light and the window for fill he could have moved the aperture down to f/22 like he wanted.
The flash would freeze the motion by itself no matter the shutter speed and a lower powered flash is the best for freezing motion.
