To access newsgroups using Outlook express using Windows; Open Outlook express, click tools in the toolbar, then accounts, then add, then news, then your name email and news server address and keep following the prompts till you are finished....of course you must be connected to the Internet in order to download the groups.
For Mac users; Open outlook express click on edit, then preferences from the toolbar. Go to accounts, then news and then enter the news server address. Click o.k, go back to the main outlook express window and you should see the news server. Double click the server and start downloading the groups
You will definitely need to know your newsgroup (NNTP) server address (should be something similar to news.yourispnewsserver.com) in order to set up and download the newsgroups.
If you don't know it or you are having problems, contact your Internet service provider. They can easily help you set this up. It only takes a few minutes. If you want to use a newsgroup without using any of the newsgroup readers mentioned above, try http://www.deja.com/usenet
Once you have downloaded the groups it's time to start sifting. Both browsers have a search field where you can enter subjects that interest you. Some main headings are Rec. for recreation and Alt. for alternative. Once you are posting questions like a pro...remember to answer a few questions as well .
