April 2012 - Gelled/Coloured flash

Hi members!

The level 2 assignment this month is Gelled/Coloured flash.

If any member doesn't actually have a coloured gel - very easy to get creative. Just use any coloured plastic packaging and cut out a strip and tape it to flash. Or perhaps get some plastic wrap/saran wrap and colour that with a marker.

Ok then who will post first?

I haven't done much shooting this month at all.... spring is starting to spring but I've just been super busy but you've given me an assignment... there's 10 days left and I'll commit to at least 3 shots. Now for ideas.....

Well, I've managed to make a couple of "gels" using some semi-transparent coloured report folders from Dollarama ($2) now I have to think of a subject and take the shot.... part way there.

Wow looks like I may be the solo contributor to this assignment - had a feeling on this assignment actually.

Anyway - here's mine. Thanks to Carmy for allowing me to photograph her in this way. I asked her to portray fear and she gave me this expression.

I used a subtle blue gel on an off-camera flash to camera right. Flash is direct and I though that would work best. You can see the gel's colour best in the highlights of her hair and in the 'coolness' of the skin tone.

An excellent shot, Marko. I have all the tools but I'm having trouble with subject matter. My wife is not quite so forthcoming with the poses :)

I've still got a day! I'll try to get something in for tomorrow.
