Last week Australia was lucky enough to have an early morning total eclipse of the sun by the moon.

In our region though the eclipse was not total ... and I forgot about it and it was well into it before I realised and started shooting ...

Interesting indeed ... what kind of filter did you use for this one?

Thanks people :)

The repetition was caused by the fact I was shooting directly at the sun so the reflections are caused by the glass elements within the 400mm lens. The sheer brightness kept the image soft. If I used a higher aperture it eliminated the reflections and just looked like a white ball with a crescent cut out of it. I could have made that in photoshop.

Matt ... I screwed on an ND4, an ND8, and a CP ... apart from that it's out of camera.

Wow, kinda what I thought, actually, I thought you might have used a 10 stop filter, with the reflections and all ... multiple layers of filters could have given you easily more reflections ...
