Wow, pretty cool. Care to share the settings you used?
That is remarkably good for a 'mere' 600mm equivalent lens! Slightly noisy but that is to be expected (this must be close to a 1:1 crop, no?). Personally I've had some luck shooting crescent moons, you get more crater detail as the sun is shining at it from the side and not head on.
Great shot !
Yes, Olympus, actually Zuiko lenses, 70-300mm are better than Canon, Nikon or Pentax or any other 70-300mm lens out there.
well done
Hmm while I completely agree that Oly make and made some outstanding lenses, in some cases better than most of the competition, the reviews that I've seen of this particular lens are good but not incredibly so. I certainly wouldn't expect it to be significantly better (in IQ terms) than the Nikkor 70-300 or Pentax 55-300. I don't know much about Canon lenses so no opinion there.
I really like this!
Just as an FYI, I've heard (but never tried) that moon exposures can be based on the sunny 16 rule. F16 - ISO 100 - 1/100
The exposure of this scene is 3 stops brighter. I like the way this is rendered though!
I have tried. The trick is to realize that the moon is reflected sunlight and therefore should be shot the same as a sunny day as long as you have a nice clear sky then it normally works out just fine. At least it did for me when I tried it once. I always wondered why the moon was overexposed when I used to try and capture it and then I realized why. Now, I shoot much closer to daylight settings and it works out just dandy.
This is a very nice shot, FredS.
