the beauty of faith
I am not an advocate for formal religion. I am not trying to offend, it's just what I believe. I do, however, love the artwork that goes into old churches, tombstones and religious icons. Here are some images that I captured from St. finabarr's cathedral in Cork Ireland.
the gold of the statue of the arc angel stands out clearly against the grey stone.

this stained glass window caught my attention. In reading I discovered that the artist used the candles to represent each member of his family.

always, always, always, look up when you go in a church.

I know that none of these have any artisitic merit. but I just wanted to capture (and share) the beauty that I saw. It was also, just after I got my camera. I will do better when I go back. :)

I really like the first two! That angel of gold just sings next to the dull stone colour of the church.

Nice set! I really would like to visit the Vatican for it's artwork.

Nice set LOVE the coloured stained glass in shot 2; I also dig shot 1.

You could have some really nice Christmas cards made up of the stained glass photo, actually. :)

I love churches! It's been a long time since I've been in a big one..but I love them.

thanks Marko Kat and Raiven. I agree that the stained glass would make a neat xmas card. Perhaps printed on vellum.
I have some more stained glass photos I have to dig out.

There is a church here in Vancouver I have gone to two times and still messed up. I will go back again and get it right. I love church interior shots:)

Nice shots. I like the one you did of the ceiling. I remember visiting this church yrs ago when I went to Belfast for a cousins wedding and then traveled around for a while. I lived in Scotland at the time.
There's a monastery out here in the valley, up the backside of Mission. I love the architecture there. I have yet to do any photgraphy up there though. Kinda nervous to go there, lightning might strike or the holy water might boil, I dunno...
