The phone call
-
It's an interesting interplay of shadows and colour. Well staged and well shot. I'm not very bright though so I don't quite get the "phone call" reference unless it's the fact that you abandoned all this stuff to go answer the phone.
-
Well thanks Iggy...I jut didn't know what to call it so yes, like you said:)
-
Ha ha..I was wondering where your smoke was!!! Love the shadows! looks like a great way to spend an afternoon!
-
So when I answered the phone a voice said "Try it with strobes!" And so I did!
1 SB600 shooting through a plastic tree left, 1 SB600 snooted to light the smoke and one SB900 on the table firing toward camera right bouncing of a 32" gold reflector. Somehow I couldn't get the leaf shadows a well as ambient but I'm OK with the final result. I was trying for an old sort of 50's, 60's look :)

I hate smoking so the first one is the most appealing to me.
But content I dislike aside ... that shadow mosaic you've captured on the wall just plain makes this photo! Brilliant! Take that away and I'd have looked at it ... shrugged my shoulders and walked away yawning.
-
Thanks MA. So lets ditch the shadow mosaic and take a look at the rest. What is it you yawn about?
-
Just nothing that personally appeals to me. But I'm not one for concept shots like this so don't take that to heart. To me it's a quaint little shot with a small story ... man reading, smoking, drinking, hears phone ring, puts down glasses ... leaves lighter burning (what the???) and leaves. I get it ... but it has no impact for me other than that really, really cool shadow mosaic! I just love that!

There are a million stories in the naked city and this is just one of them.....
I like both the strobe lit and ambient light versions.

Nicely setup and shot. It does tell a story.
