No Kat ... this isn't HDR. This is Light Painting which I used for some of my 'Wave Sculture' shots as well. Raiven asked me to explain in another thread (my playground thread) so here's what I told her ...Quote:

These were a type of light painting where I set the camera on a long exposure and outlined the bear with some small led bike lights I have to create that image.

This one is the same type of Light Painting I did in those shots above.
The technique here is to use a torch or similar ( I used a tiny LED torch) to paint in the rocks in the foreground which would otherwise have been too dark. This one was a single exposure.
The 3 I mentioned in the first post in this thread however are several exposures. I took several long exposures (30 secs each at high f-stops to create the star bursts on the lamps) and then in each shot I light painted with a strong LED night riding bike light different parts of the structures. No flash was used in the taking of these photos, and no small animals were hurt or abused.
When I got them home I then blended several of the shots together to create those photos.
I've been inspired by a guy whose work was included in the latest edition of the Australian Institute of professional Photographers (AIPP) magazine, of which I'm a member. This guy Brent Pearson does amazing work with his specific lighting setup and has an e-mag you can subscribe to (only US$20) in order to learn his technique. I will do this soon.
Have a look at his work on Flickr and you'll see why I'm so impressed with this stuff ... and how much I have to learn yet!!!
