Feeding the bridge
Pattullo Bridge built in the 1930's has claimed the lives of 27 people since construction. Last year it was shut down for a couple of weeks when one end caught fire. Some of the base construction was made of wood.

It just caught fire did it? That would be rather unusual here in Aussie let alone Vancouver. Fire bugs? Car accident?
Get a lot of trucks in Vancouver do we? 4:1 ratio trucks to cars in that shot!
I like this image ... as a stock image type thing.
That bridge looks like a great subject for many photos though!

I think the fire was caused by homeless people as I recall. This a major truck route and the bridge is quite narrow with two lanes each way. Quite often the trucks put on their 4 way flashing lights and hog both lanes. At night the bridge is reduced to two outside lanes lanes to curb night time head on collisions. The speed limit on the bridge is 50 kmh but many like to go 80.

I remember when one of the university engineer classes hung a Volkswagon Bettle under the bridge, that was in the 70s.

That was actually the Lions Gate bridge not this one. The Lions Gate is a suspension bridge and way higher:)

Oops you right, our Calgary boys wanted to top that but I don't think they did.

Very cool shot Michael. Reminds me of a bridge here in Middletown. I'll have to post a shot of it.
