I like the way the lamps line up and march down the side of the boardwalk on this.
black and white is an excellent choice for this.
Thank you, Quiet One and Bambi! Cheers :)
I quite like this, good repeating pattern. Not much going on in the water though, I might have cropped this much closer to the first pole because of that fact. Just a thought.
Thanks, Marko. Trying to understand when negative space is an asset and when it's a distraction is not a trivial task ;)
Well I can tell you that with this particular image the crop you suggest could totally work, however, I think it would give a different mood to the shot as it would get rid of a lot of the light and I feel would throw the shot out of balance for my taste. Challenge! ;)
I like how the lamp posts provide a leading line down the boardwalk. The other reason, I think, you might want to crop on the left is that it seems a bit washed out on the left hand side. You would have to try it to see. As you said it might change the mood.
just to wade in with my completely inexpert opinion.... I like the water here. It add a neat light/dark ying/yang quality to it.:twocents:

The mood's completely different. The first shot made me want to follow the line and see what's at the far end. This one seems - mundane. Maybe if I were in a different mood, or I hadn't seen the other I'd feel differently about it, but for me, I like the first one better.
For me it's a brilliant photograph because of the openness on the left, the water just opens up the whole space so I feel what it's like standing on the boardwalk and the sea air. There's a sense of fog over the water. Second crop shuts all that down. I like that it's sharp all the way to the Murphy's sign and each board is visible on the walkway. Plus, there are no people around to distract, which brings a mood of early morning. Very nicely done black and white conversion.
I like the picture a lot, I would only like a bit more definition in the clouds, not a lot just a tad more I think it would make it a bit more dramatic. Outsie that I would leave it as it is, nicely done.
the new crop does not work for me. :)
Interesting how different crop please different people.
I agree that the whole mood changes w/this crop, but for me, this new crop makes the image considerably stronger. I'd still burn the mid left edge by 5-10% here.
I think if the lights turn on this would also make a nice evening shot.
Almost a backlit feel to this one. Nice.
